This course provides an overview of the PowerVM edition's features on POWER6 processor-based systems. It explains the new features and benefits of virtualization including the processor virtualization, the Integrated Virtual Ethernet, the virtual I/O server, and the virtual devices such as the virtual Ethernet and virtual SCSI adapters. Basic and advanced configurations of the virtual I/O server and its clients are discussed including various availability options.

This intermediate course is intended for System Administrators, technical support personnel, and business partners responsible for implementing Virtualization Features on IBM Power Systems with AIX.
Students must have advanced system administration experience with AIX V5.3 or AIX 6 and logical partition administration (LPAR) skills on POWER6 processor-based systems. This prerequisite may be met by attending the following courses:
- Power Systems for AIX 1: LPAR Configuration and Planning Kurs AN11D1DE
- Power Systems for AIX 2: Implementation and Administration Kurs AN12D1DE (until 2009: AU14D0DE) or AIX Jumpstart for UNIX Professionals Kurs AN14D1DE (until 2009: AW18D2DE)
- Power Systems for AIX 3: Advanced Administration and Problem Determination Kurs AN15D1DE (until 2009: AU16D0DE)
- or students must have equivalent AIX and LPAR skills.
